Future job performance may depend on being able to use GAITs ethically and effectively. For those who can use them well, GAITs can automate or streamline many of the boring and tedious tasks, leaving more time for creativity and critical thinking that humans alone are currently capable of.

Our responsibility as educators is to prepare students for the world they will enter upon completing their goals - be that work or further education.  GAITs will play major roles in most workplaces, and is already being used heavily in many academic professions.  The likelihood is that our students will need GAIT skills in order to compete.

Ethical Concerns:Thinking robot.

The only way to be sure to use GAITs ethically, is to understand the ethical concerns and how to alleviate them. Unethical use can lead to similar consequences as plagiarism and other forms of cheating - poor grades, expulsion, and damaged professional reputation.

As our students move out of our classrooms, they will encounter GAITs. If we don't teach them the ethical use of GAITs, who will?

Generative AI is here to stay!Robot moving into a college dorm.

Although basic generative AI technology has been a part of our lives for quite a while in the form of autocomplete and grammar check, the newer large language models change everything.

Generative AI tools (GAITs) have spread throughout all facets of life impacted by computers - financial trading, word processing, webpage creation, coding, and so on. They can improve productivity drastically, and save companies money. As long as that's the case, they're here to stay.
