Library Resources

Jose searches the catalog for books on the Chesapeake Bay, finds the call number F187 and then looks on the shelf for that call number. He looks for the F section between the E and G sections.

Your professor may require an article to be "peer-reviewed". You may want to choose "held by library" if you want a physical book rather than online. You may update the dates depending on if you want a primary source or a current source.

Your professor may require an article to be "peer-reviewed".

After you have found your article, take advantage of other features such as the citing button, translating button, audio button, and more.

Determine how narrow or broad you want your search terms.

If you use "Hurricane Matthew interview", you will be more likely to find the information you want rather than a broad search term such as "hurricane". However. using a more general search such as "Cold War spies" may help you find more resources.

If your search is too general (e.g. "hurricane") become more specific ("Hurricane Matthew interview"). If it is too narrow, widen your search.

Use Boolean Search Operators.

These search terms allow you to exclude or include exactly what you want. They can be used not only in database searches but other search engines as well (e.g. Google).

Use Boolean Operators such as "and" "or" "not" and *.
