Editing Tips

• Check grammar.
  • Do you write with complete sentences --every sentence has a subject and a verb?
  • Break up any run-on sentences. Take out "ands" and replace with periods. 
  • Do you use plural nouns with plural verbs and singular nouns with singular verbs?
  • Is everything spelled correctly?
  • Do you capitalize proper nouns and the first words in the sentence?

• Check smoothness.
  • Do you use transitions to switch from one point to the next?
  • Is your writing clear or confusing?
  • Do you have a clear order? Do you follow your outline or organizational tool?
